Hi all
I have been watching Donna Downey for ages with her inspiration Wednesdays on her blog and love how she just does and goes with the flow as she works.

I also just recently took an online class from Itza Gomez on doing an art journal page.
This was my result but I did it on cereal box cardboard…

First layer was gesso, then masking tape/washi tape, then paint, and another layer of paint, after that it was using a stencil with molding paste, and then we sprayed it then used other stencils with paint, then added glitter, then coloured in some images (fish, shells, mermaid), and stuck them to the background. Added a layer of pearlex varnish to hold on the paper pictures and glitter. Then we added black marker lines around the images and white paint.

So many layers. So much fun!

Then I decided to follow those principals and to an art journal cover…


FWF = Fiskateers with faith – from the online group called Fiskateers. We have a monthly scripture challenge to do in any form we want.

Next page I did was challenge number 2 – I’ve already done challenge number 1 in another form.




My journaling is private and put into an inclusion pocket. It’s all about what I think of the scripture that’s on the Front of the pocket.

Here is my challenge number two completed… (They are actually up to number 10 so I’ve got to catch up on)

And something to muddle your mind… I flipped the book over. So that I can art journal with Terri Sprouls class on Tuesdays 6pm PST (NZ Wed 1pm) live at her youtube channel. She gives homework and asks you to post it on her facebook wall.

So yea that is the upside down side.

So that’s it for now for my art journaling.
I love this layering form of art. You maybe seeing more of this mixed media art form from me.

This week I have this to show you…..

Yes more masks made out of clear plastic packaging and acetate. The above are around 9×11″ approx. did the positive and negative.

I found the honey comb a bit hard at first but once I got the shape right I got to work…

That’s A4 size.

And a three fern design…. 5″x6″ in size.

Bricks as well…..

5.5″ x 7.5″ in size

And leaves…

5″x5″ in size

Yes I’m on a roll with these home made masks… And having fun making them.
I can ink with them, paint with them, use modelling paste/compound with them, use fabric paints with them. So fun to use!

Recycle today and have some crafty fun.

Helmar USA Design Guest Designer Submission

Hello everyone. Yes I am submitting an application for the Guest Designer position at Helmar. I’ve loved their adhesives for a very long time…. (they originated in Australia you know. New Zealand’s neighbor.)

My first project…. Hero Scroll

This Hero Scroll is for my daughters teacher. She was awesomely brave during the devastating 6.3 earthquake here in Christchurch looking after 25 students. My daughter and I decided she deserved a hero scroll. And we made it together.

I used:

• Helmar Acid Free Glue -to adhere the card-stock together, put the white paper onto the scroll and card-stock to the tubes.
• Helmar Crafter’s Choice Premium Craft Glue – to adhere the fabric flowers and fabric stamped butterflies.

Additional supplies:

• cardboard tubes from baking paper
• A4 card-stock and A4 white printer paper
• Various assorted flowers, ribbon and stickers
• Queen & Co – felt fusion
• Fiskars Leaves boarder punch
• Heidi Grace rubons
• Kaisercraft rubber stamp

My second project: Felt Pirate Parrot

This friendly little fellow was inspired by my son playing Pirates with his sister….
All made of felt and handsewed together. Most of the “feathers” and the eyes however were stuck on using Helmar Crafter’s Choice Premium Craft Glue.

Other supplies used:

• needle
• DMC thread
• google eyes
• Felt
• Fiskars scissors

Here is my little darling/pirate with the parrot on his shoulder….

My Third project: Pet Carry Bag

This handy little number is 5.5″ x 4.5″ x 3.5″ in size. Handy enough to carry a Fur Real Bunny…. For my daughter…. hmmmm looks like an Easter basket!

I used:

• Helmar Fray Stoppa – to stop the canvas from fraying while working with it
• Helmar Crafter’s Choice Premium Craft Glue – to adhere the fabric flowers and bow to the bag.

Other supplies used:

• Autumn leaves swirl stamps by Rhonda Farrier
• Buttons
• Fabric Flowers
• Fiskars scissors
• Fiskars 1/8″ hand punch
• Silk Iridescent Ink – Fuchsia, by Stewart Superior
• DMC 906 thread
• Raw artist Canvas – as in non-prepared and straight off the roll from an art shop.

special note: The Silk Iridescent Ink was used as a spray (few drops in a spray bottle topped with water) and then put on a craft sheet, spread around slightly and used as a stamping ink.

Now if you remember (if you are a follower from way back) I have had a Tattered Angels album I started decorating…. well I’ve finally got around to doing some more pages in Art journal style….

But first here are the old pages to catch you newbies up….

this table is covered by card fronts from when my daughter was born and the legs are covered with best wishes, wrapping paper samples and cards from her first birthday.
All sealed up with Modge Podge.

My daughter lost her first tooth this week…
A pouch to put her tooth in (saves the tooth fairy from digging under a huge pillow and getting squashed in the process).

Tutorial Thurs – Mini album from junk prt4

Ok as you guessed it I’m doing page at a time. But also a great excuse to do tutorials for you as well – right?

You will need:
Back of an art pad (or raw chipboard bit) that will fit into your album.
Pencil
Scissors
Brown inkpad and sponge applicator/sponge block
Montarga Crackle stamp (or other crackle stamp)
KaiserCraft grunge clear stamp (or other grunge stamp)
Memories Dye ink pad Yellowish/Tan by Stewart superior
Memories Mist – in green by Stewart Superior (or glimmer mist)
Marker pen – black chisel
Fiba tape – found at DIY stores – its a self adheasive tape that plasterers use to smooth out joins in the wall before painting/wallpapering.
Creative living network- ink Dauber – Juniper(green) side

1. Draw around the previous page if it is smaller and mark the space where it is see through.

2. ink up the page using the sponge and the brown ink pad all over except for the space where this page will show through your other page previously done (as it was see through).

3. ink up the crackle stamp with the same brown ink and stamp all over the page.

4. ink up the grunge stamp with the yellow/tan ink pad and stamp in 2 places randomly

5. Write your words on your page. If you want to put a picture do. Its really up to you this bit. I chose to write the passage from the bible in Psalm 46:1-2

6. Spray your green mist randomly into your page.

7. Add the Fiba tape

8. Daub spots onto your page with the ink dauber.

You are done – now let dry and put into your album.

Things to do #5 and #6 – a fairy and a flower

Over the last 2 days I have been creating instead of blogging about creating.
Well you know – i have to have time to actually create something to blog about don’t I? lol

This first card was really for a technique I wanted to try……
Glimmer mist/Memories Mist sprayed over a clear embossed image.
this technique was posted up by the very talented – Terri Sproul on her blog

First go went very very wrong!

It supposed to really pop the fairy out from the cardstock.
Well ok so i do stuff wrong from time to time and usually didn’t show it but had to show you lot as its kind of important to know these things…. ***I’m not perfect****

Now the thing I did wrong here is either one of two things (or both)
1. I didn’t use dark card-stock with a light coloured mist.
2. I didn’t use a dark coloured mist on a light coloured card-stock.

But when I went back and re-did the technique on the same cardstock with darker coloured mist…

Pop Pop Pop!!!
I then felt like adding a flower and some gems.
Oh the stamped image is my own fairy stamp carved out of rubber and wood mounted.
The boarder punch I used was Fiskars Apron Lace on both sides of the strip with a Fiskars 1/8″ circle hand punch for the holes.

Next is making a paper flower:
This flower tutorial is at Scrapping Tonight and posted on that blog near the beginning of this year. Thats how long I’ve been meaning to do this one!

My Fiskars XL scallop circle squeeze punch did perfect with this flower.
I copied her card too with a change of an addition of the butterfly/leaf and the boarder punch which is Fiskars lace boarder punch.

Love that flower! And so easy to do.

Yes i did do more than that but you will have to wait till the next post for that one…

Tutorial – leaf greeting card

Ok so we are backwards and upside down to what America and the Northern Hemisphere is doing right now…. We in New Zealand are in winter…. brrrrr………

So here is something that is really different to all the flower cards that are coming out there on the internet at the present moment. A leaf card tutorial -

the bottom card is the one that is in the video.
the other leaf card – here with half dried glue… was my first attempt at the video but it went over time but similar thing. Just twigs added and 2 lengths of silver string.

And the unicorn card is just a throw in with the photo shoot. Its my latest stamp I carved myself out of the last of the rubber sheet I have. Sprayed with gold memories mist with added embellies.
