Just one more day left till Easter weekend here in NZ…

Matthew 27: 27- 31
Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers round him. They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand and knelt in front of him and mocked him. “hail, king of the Jews!” they said. The spat on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. After they had mocked him, they took off the rove and put his own clothes on him. Then they lead him away to crucify him. (NIV)

I’m weaving two baskets for my kids this year for Easter egg collecting in the garden.
Made them smaller on purpose so that their 5 eggs each look alot. ;)

Please note:
don’t count the strips in the photos…. as I needed to adjust later on.
Read instructions.

Cut 3 sheets of 12×12 cardstock @ 1″x12″ strips.

weave 9 strips across and 4 down

for the base of the basket count 3 across and 4 down – each of the sides is 3 strips high.
Now weave the sides together to form the basket… some trimming may be necessary on the sides.
Do NOT trim top tabs.

Fold over the top tabs and secure in place with adhesive.

Your basket will look like this…. or similar.

now trim another strip of 1″ x 12″ strip a little skinnier than 1″
and slip it under middle square and secure handle by folding up the end with adhesive.
Later on I also added a staple at both ends.

Now the last step is to get the kiddos to decorate them with stickers.

Also put them in a “safe” place till egg collecting on Easter weekend.

I ended up putting them either side of a Easter banner upside down… representing the empty tomb of Jesus…. baskets can’t hold anything if they are upside down.
